An exciting role for a Community Worker to join the Walking Tall Program at Ngurrawaana Community.
The Walking Tall Program is a community-led wellbeing initiative supporting the social, emotional, cultural and physical wellbeing of women, families and young people in the Ngurrawaana Community, on the Yindjibarndi Tablelands, approximately 1.5 hours drive from Karratha. Developed through extensive consultation with Elders, Rangers, artists, service providers and community members, the program brings together cultural activities, health services, outreach support, education and practical wellbeing initiatives in a way that reflects local priorities and strengths.
Since commencement, the program has delivered a wide range of activities and partnerships, including women’s clothing days, GP outreach clinics, annual BreastScreen appointments, Mental Health First Aid training, physiotherapy outreach, AOD education sessions, cultural knowledge transfer activities on Country, bush balm and soap-making workshops, and support for community participation in regional arts and archaeology conferences.
The program has also established partnerships with a range of health and community service providers including Mawarnkarra Health Service, Yaandina Community Services, headspace Pilbara, BreastScreen WA, Pilbara Therapy Services, Badiwi Gardaga Consultancy and the Department of Transport’s Remote Licensing Program. Alongside service delivery, the project has focused on strengthening long-term community wellbeing through coordinated planning, customised supports, intergenerational cultural activities and integration with broader Yindjibarndi initiatives including Rangers, Arts and Think Culture.
Come and work with us!
As the program continues to grow, we are now seeking passionate and community-minded staff to support the ongoing delivery and development of Walking Tall in Ngurrawaana.
